It is time to tax the ultra Rich and hold the city of Chicago accountable until they restore and repair the harm that was created long before the Migrant Crisis.

It is clear that all Communities of color have had about enough. We are in solidarity about this, no doubt. This was a problem before the current Migrant Crisis. What will it take to invest in and restore disenfranchised neighborhoods?

The West Side has not been the same since the riots and fires after MLK’s murder and COINTELPRO killed Fred Hampton left vacant lots and buildings which still remain so today.

Black Americans in historically divested neighborhoods in Chicago feel righteous indignation about being asked to give up their safe community spaces for shelters, and that is a completely reasonable response.

Parts of the West Side are still reeling from an opioid epidemic. For me, this is deeply personal. I feel the West Side has been somewhat forgotten about, and certainly at times, neglected. And yet the West Side…
