The Clear Link Between Mass Shootings & Violence Against Women
I’m not here tonight to make a political statement. 21 peoples’ families are mourning tonight. The death toll continued to rise this afternoon as people in critical condition lost their battle to live. My respect, honor, and grief eclipse political statements.
This is me tonight. I am begging our legislators to stop whatever it is you are doing, and pay attention. Please stop whatever you are doing. And pay. Attention. This is not a political agenda. This is merely pointing out that there is clear and convincing evidence that violence against women and children in domestic situations is a predictor of mass shootings.
We need to believe women. We need to believe our children. When they say they are being abused, when they say they are afraid, believe them. And do not allow these men to buy firearms. I don’t care if they’re boyfriends and not husbands. I don’t care if they’re fiancees and not husbands. I don’t care that they were abusive only financially, or emotionally, or verbally and that it was 20 years ago. It doesn’t matter.
They are violent men. Do not allow them to buy firearms. Hold men accountable. And stop this madness.
Two thirds of mass shootings in America are linked to domestic violence.
Stop this. I’m begging you. Our children deserve to live, to go to school and learn in safety, to live safely.
