My Single Minority Mom Take on the “Why Don’t Women Want to Cook or Clean Anymore” Video

Might be slightly ruthless. No harm meant to the men folk out there.

I just watched the now viral video by the so-called Black Guru inquiring this man’s opinion on why women don’t want to cook and clean anymore. I’m not married, and I’ve actually never been married. I am a working single mom and I’m also not White, so I guess I have a little bit of my own spin on this whole topic.

Basically, I don’t have a choice.

Not trying to sound bitter or resentful. Because yes, it was definitely my own choice to be a single mom. I met my son’s father when I was 18 and loved him right away. With 15 years of history in tow, I decided my values and priorities no longer lined up to my ex and that I did not want to marry him. So I called off the wedding 29 days before we were going to get hitched. About a year and some change after that, I started dating a different man, who I stayed loyal to and loved deeply for over 2 years.

Both of these longer term relationships were with Black men who grew up in the (White influenced) Christian church. Both of these men came from humble beginnings and defied lots of odds, worked hard, and became…
