Thank you so much for this beautiful piece. I am grateful to all women of color who are brave and courageous enough to share experiences and so poised and candidly so. Thank you.
I am not Black so I do not have this exact experience nor do I wish to diminish it in any way by drawing some sort of comparative analysis. I do however want to share with you how this touches my heart. It makes me want to learn and know more about you so I can become a better ally and friend to others. It also helps me realize that although there are complexities and unique nuances to the diversity of women of color’s experiences, so much of what you shared resonated with me deeply and personally in terms of being hyper sexualized, and politically invisible or hunted with no real space in between or true intersectionality/equity.
I really empathize with being cast into a role of “too much” or too strong as a female of color and as a single mother; perhaps those overlapping roles sort of require me to face the world with armour on. I can’t really imagine that layer of adultification as well what Black girls experience. But I know this contributes to the Missing and murdered numbers of black girls and women and that is wrong.
Thank you so much for sharing. 💕 wish you peace and joy on this journey.
